A member is a user that has write access to a project. A user may be a member to one project and a follower to another. Each user can own projects and participate as member or follower in projects they're invited to. The project member limits are set according to the selected plan of the project owner.
By default, all projects in Flying Donut are private, and accessible only to invited users. Public projects are visible to anyone, and are intended for open source software development, or any project that does not require data privacy. It is important to know that search engines have access to all content that is added to public projects.
All accounts, regardless of selected plan, are allowed to create unlimited public projects.
Yes, Flying Donut can be used as a free agile collaboration and project management tool. The free plan includes 1 private project with 5 members (including yourself). In addition, Flying Donut is free for public projects, non-commercial educational purposes, and academic research. If you are a student or a faculty from educational institutions contact us at info@flyingdonut.io.
No, we do not permit the creation or usage of multiple projects by the same team or organization with different owners on our free plan. Doing so would fall under premium usage, which requires an upgrade to a paid plan.
Yes, Flying Donut is free for students and teachers at educational institutions (high schools, colleges, and universities). It must only be used for non-commercial educational purposes and academic research. It means that it may not be used for development of any organization’s products or services. Students and faculty from educational institutions are welcome to apply at info@flyingdonut.io and we will send you detailed instructions on how to get an unlimited academic account.
Yes, universities, accredited educational institutions, and non-profit organisations are entitled to 50% discount on commercial subscriptions for development of internal projects and applications. You are welcome to request a quote at sales@flyingdonut.io, we'll be happy to assist you.
Your Flying Donut account has no size limitations. We try to provide storage for all projects, within reason. Keeping projects small ensures that our servers are fast and downloads are quick for all users.
There is a file size limit though, to avoid unnecessary file uploads. Flying Donut should not be used as a streaming sever, or a file server. For these files it's usually best to use a service specifically designed for that. Services like Vimeo, Youtube, Dropbox, or Google Drive usually works great.
With the exception of the "Free Donut" all other plans don't impose a user limit. We try to provide resources for all projects, within reason. We do have a soft limit in place of 150 users per project though, as a precaution. We think that the 150 users on a project is reasonable enough for the majority of the running projects. If you need more than 150 users on a single project please contact us on support@flyingdonut.io, we'll be happy to assist you.
Do you need more than the existing plans has to offer? Contact us on sales@flyingdonut.io for information on our larger plans, we'll be happy to assist you.
When you upgrade or downgrade your account, the new plan is immediately applied to your account. In other words, if you're upgrading to a paid plan, you get instant access to more private projects. If you're downgrading to a free plan, you may have to park or delete a number of private projects, to be compliant with your new selection, at the end of the billing cycle. Until the existing billing cycle ends you will be able to make use of your projects within the limits of the already paid plan. You will not be able to increase the number of members in your projects.
For payment plans, you are billed in advance on a monthly or yearly basis, depending on the billing cycle of the selected plan.
On the day you upgrade to a paid plan, you’ll only be charged for unique project members. If you’re on a paid plan and add new members through the billing cycle, we’ll only charge for the time used. We’ll keep track of this for you, and bill you once per month.
Example:You are on the Standard plan and you're paying monthly — $5 per member per month. You add a new member 10 days into your billing period and there are 20 days remaining in the month.
We calculate the prorated subscription cost by dividing the number of days remaining (20) by the number of days in the month (30) and multiplying by the cost per member ($5). This gives us the prorated subscription cost for the remainder of that billing period: $3.33
If you pay annually, we'll calculate the prorated cost for the rest of the year, and bill you at the end of each monthly cycle for any new members added.
Flying Donut detects member additions and removals from private projects. When you remove a member from a project, then an empty slot is created until the end of the billing cycle. When you add a new member the same day (or the following ones), then the new member is using the empty slot that was created, thus you will not be billed any prorated usage.
On the other hand, if you add a new member and after a few days you remove another member, you will only pay a prorated amount for the extra usage you had between the addition and the removal of the project members.
